I've been beaten up, detained: Abhijeet Dipke's first reaction after Wangchuk removed from Jantar Mantar

Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday alleged that he was beaten up and detained by the Delhi Police. His reaction came just after Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the protest site and rushed to the hospital by Delhi Police.

In a post on X, Dipke wrote: "I have been beaten up and put under detention by Delhi Police."High drama unfolded at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar as Delhi Police shifted climate activist Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital. The operation triggered heavy chaos at the site, drawing a fierce first reaction from Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

Abhijeet Dipke’s Direct Reaction

As police moved in to remove Wangchuk—who was on day 21 of an indefinite hunger strike protesting NEET examination irregularities—Dipke took to social media to raise an alarm. He alleged that he was physically assaulted and taken into custody while trying to access the protest site:

"I have been beaten up and put under detention by Delhi Police. Delhi Police is cracking down at Jantar Mantar, beating people up and taking away Sonam sir forcefully."

Protesters at the scene backed Dipke's claims, stating that police personnel originally arrived in plain clothes, posing as a medical team, before ordering volunteers to clear the area and moving in to take Wangchuk away.

The Official Stance from Authorities

The Delhi Police strictly denied allegations of using excessive force or assaulting Dipke and the students. According to an official statement, the police acted in accordance with a Delhi High Court order that mandated the continuous monitoring of Wangchuk’s rapidly deteriorating health.

The authorities maintained that they faced heavy obstruction from the present crowd, resulting in a "slight commotion," but exercised maximum restraint to ensure Wangchuk was safely transported for essential medical care. Dipke was subsequently released from detention once the ambulance carrying Wangchuk had safely left the premises.

Escalation of the Movement

The forced removal has only added fuel to the fire. Rather than backing down, the CJP has announced an escalation of their movement. Following his release, Dipke declared that the planned march to Parliament will still go forward, and the agitation will expand its focus to demand accountability directly from the top leadership.
