1. Early Life & Dual Existence
Birth & Name: Born as Lakshmi Narayan Sharma around 1900 in the village of Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh, to a wealthy Brahmin family.
Early Renunciation: Married at age 11, but left home shortly after to become a wandering monk (Lakshman Das).
The Dual Life: After a decade of wandering, his father convinced him to return home.
He fulfilled his duties as a householder, fathered three children, and simultaneously lived as a saint dedicated to serving humanity. 
2. How He Got the Name "Neem Karoli"
While wandering, he spent time in the village of Neeb Karori (Farrukhabad, UP), where villagers dug an underground cave for his meditation.
He oversaw the construction of a Hanuman temple above the cave and eventually took the name of the village.
3. The Famous Train Miracle
Baba boarded a first-class train compartment at Farrukhabad without a ticket. The conductor halted the train and forced him off at the small station of Neeb Karori.
When the driver tried to start the train again, the engine revved, but the wheels wouldn't move.
After extensive mechanical checks yielded no issues, passengers suggested inviting Baba back onto the train. Baba agreed under two conditions: that a train station be built for the village of Neeb Karori and that railway staff treat sadhus with respect.
Once he stepped back on, the train moved immediately. 
4. Kainchi Dham & Legacy
In 1964, he established his most famous ashram, Kainchi Dham, in the hills of Nainital, Uttarakhand.
He taught a simple philosophy: "Love all, serve all, feed all, and remember God."
Baba passed away on September 11, 1973, in Vrindavan.

Through Western disciples like Ram Dass (Richard Alpert) and Krishna Das, his teachings spread across the globe.
High-profile tech innovators and personalities—including Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Julia Roberts, and Larry Brilliant—made pilgrimages to Kainchi Dham to seek spiritual direction and clarity.
