Goa hotel staff do not prefer Delhi tourists, reveals reason in viral video

A candid exchange between hotel staff in Goa about tourist behaviour has gone viral, drawing mixed reactions online.

The video, shared on Instagram by hospitality professional Hanumant Naik, captures a conversation with two hotel employees dressed in green uniforms. It opens with a shot of the hotel pool before shifting focus to the staff members as Naik discusses the expected drop in foreign tourists and the likelihood of more Indian guests.

In the video, Naik asks the female staff member which tourists she prefers, giving her options of Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru, and specifically checks if she would choose visitors from Delhi.

She smiles and responds, “No sir." When questioned about the reason, she agrees that they can be rude and says, “They talk like this: ‘O hello. O idhar. Paani laao. Chai laao’."

She then draws comparisons with tourists from other cities. Talking about visitors from Mumbai, she says, “Mumbai wale achche hain. Vo log bahut respect se [baat karte hain]."

Referring to Bengaluru tourists, she adds, “Bangalore tourists bhi achcha hai," and concludes with, “Delhi wala thoda rough hai." The male colleague standing next to her is seen agreeing with her remarks.

Sharing the clip, Naik clarified that the video was not meant to target anyone but to highlight observations made by service staff. He wrote, “No hate to Delhi, only calling out behaviour that everyone quietly notices… And just to be clear, this isn’t even my personal opinion… it’s feedback from my service staff who deal with guests daily."

He further added, “This reel is NOT for the well-behaved Delhi tourists, you’re always welcome."

The video sparked a wave of reactions on social media. While some users agreed with the staff member’s remarks, others pushed back against what they saw as stereotyping.

One user commented, “The only time I hate being associated to Delhi. She is absolutely right, Delhites are rude…super rude."

Another user sharing a personal experience, said, “This happened to me recently. We were at a restaurant in Goa… At the end, one of the staff members came up to us and asked, ‘Are you from Mumbai?’… ‘I could tell, you were so polite and well spoken’."

Another user wrote, “This is not funny. Typical stereotype attitude towards Delhi. Not all people are rude."

A viral video shared by hospitality professional Hanumant Naik has sparked a massive online debate after a Goa hotel staff member explained why they prefer tourists from Mumbai and Bengaluru over those from Delhi.

The Reason Cited

In the video, a female staff member was asked which domestic tourists she prefers to host now that the foreign tourist season has peaked. Her response was candid:

  • Behavioral Differences: She labeled Delhi tourists as "rude" and "rough" in their communication style.

  • The "Order" Culture: To illustrate her point, she mimicked how some Delhi guests call out to staff, using phrases like, "O hello. O idhar. Paani laao. Chai laao" (Hey, come here. Bring water. Bring tea), without using basic courtesy or a respectful tone.

  • Contrasting Cities: She praised tourists from Mumbai and Bengaluru, describing them as "very respectful," "polite," and "standard" in their interactions with service staff.

Response and Reaction

The video has divided social media, leading to a mix of validation and criticism:

  • Support for Staff: Many users in the comments—including those from the hospitality industry in other states like Uttarakhand—agreed, claiming they have had similar experiences with "entitled" behavior from North Indian tourists.

  • Defense of Delhi: Others argued that the video unfairly stereotypes an entire city based on the actions of a few, noting that many travelers from Delhi are well-behaved and respectful.

  • Clarification: Following the backlash, the creator of the video clarified that the reel was not meant to hate on Delhi but rather to highlight the daily feedback from service staff. He noted that "well-behaved Delhi tourists are always welcome."

The incident has essentially turned into a broader conversation about travel etiquette and the importance of treating service workers with dignity, regardless of where a tourist is from.
